Outdoor lighting can set the mood as nicely as it can illuminate the area for a nice quiet dinner

If you’ve been following our blog, you know we’ve been talking about installing landscape lighting, getting your deck or patio ready for the season with outdoor lighting and lighting your pool area for better night time swimming.  We’ve just about covered all of your outdoor living spaces in the last few weeks.  But maybe you’ve noticed one area of your yard that just isn’t popping like the rest.  Maybe it’s a dark trellis in the back corner or private sitting area that doesn’t seem as inviting at night.  Why not add a couple of fixtures to your Memphis landscape lighting system to bring them back into focus at night?

Small areas of your yard can get lost at night if they are further away from your deck, patio, pool area or other areas that are more often used at night.  Maybe they are features that define your property line, maybe they were created to increase the appeal of your yard or maybe you just haven’t completed the project of lighting them.  Whatever the case, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Memphis can not only help you finish that project, we’ll make it look better than you ever imagined.  In many cases, it may take just a couple fixtures to bring out the beauty and functionality of the area at night.  That’s because we have a variety of fixtures and know from our 15 years lighting outdoor living spaces in Memphis, the best fixtures to use with the right outdoor lighting techniques.

One client’s property comes to mind for this very reason.  They had a small sitting area located in the back corner of their yard, away from the house and all lighting already installed.  In the daytime, the corner trellis not only served to block what was behind it, it also defined the corner of their property.  The area was very serene and included a small water feature and beautiful rose bushes but wasn’t being used at night because of the lack of light.  We knew we couldn’t install lighting from the yard directed inward because it would create a tripping hazard for anyone walking nearby. We also didn’t want to install lighting on the ground point upward within the sitting area because the trailing vines on the trellis would not be seen.   We decided on four adjustable spotlights on the top area of the trellis panels to not only highlight the panels but also illuminate the water feature and rose bushes in the area.  Careful attention was paid to the seating area to give it enough light to enjoy a meal or drink or a nice conversation but not too much light that it would shine in the line of sight for anyone sitting there enjoying the evening.  The entire area became a cozy corner and also a focal point from the house itself.

The second area of our client’s property demanded just as much attention to detail.  This area was created to ease the worries of the day away.  There’s something about a hammock that provides an instant thought of relaxation.  Our client wanted to be able to enjoy the area with just enough ambient lighting to make it a truly tranquil place to rest.  In this case we used spotlights on the ground, carefully placing them out of the way to avoid any potential accidents.  We positioned the lighting to reflect off of the trees, grazing the trunk to create dramatic shadowing and highlighting the textures of the trunk while creating depth to the area.   Because of the way we angled the light, it creatively bounced around the trees, deck posts and ceiling to encompass the area without shining any direct light in the line of sight.

These are just two ways Memphis landscape lighting can be used to create a truly unique area in your yard.  If you have an abandoned corner, a dim row of unique trees, an indistinguishable island or any other area you would like to use at night but don’t because it gets lost in the darkness, give Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Memphis a call.  We can create a custom design, using the right fixtures and lighting techniques to bring it to life at night.  We think you’ll be just as pleased with your space as our Memphis clients were with theirs.  Our consultation is always free and your custom design is just a phone call away.
